Pearson Medallion Award Ceremony 2015

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 Sept 2015 – Seven A-Levels students from HELP were awarded medals by Pearson Edexcel for the highest scores achieved in individual subjects in the Edexcel International A-Levels exams among A-Levels centres in Malaysia.

They were:

Accounting

Loh Qiao Wen, Ng Cheh Chee, Teoh Khai Jian & Wong Wei Xin

Biology

Hushil Singh Sandhu

Economics

Heng Wei Ann

Physics

Foong Yue Kwang

The Pearson Medallion Award was previously known as the World Awards, given for the highest scores in the world in specific subjects. HELP students won an impressive 70 of the World Awards from 2004 to 2013, when the split between the GCE and the Edexcel IAL exam boards resulted in Pearson now giving the Medallion Award to students scoring the highest mark in single subjects in Malaysia.The subject award tally for HELP stands at:

  • Accounting – 27
  • Law – 15
  • Chemistry – 10
  • Physics – 9
  • Biology – 7
  • Further Maths – 5
  • Maths – 2
  • Economics – 1
  • English Literature – 1
  • Total – 77

English Literature and Economics are the odd ones in the list. Despite the small number of students opting for Eng Lit, the A-Levels Department scored a spectacular World Award for the subject in 2006 (won by Natalie Lim Yen Kuan).As for Economics, HELP managed to win an award for the subject only in 2015 (scored by Heng Wei Ann).

HELP’s A-Levels Department was also honoured by Pearson Edexcel for its achievements. It was recognised as a Centre of Excellence for delivering Pearson Edexcel international qualifications, and as Best Performing RTC for 2014.

The Pearson Medallion Awards ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Education P Kamalanathan, with the UK High Commissioner Victoria Treadell in attendance.
