PROFILE

A Subang Jaya, Selangor, resident, Carmen started her psychology studies in 2012 with Nottingham University Malaysia and graduated in 2016 with her BSc in Psychology with 2nd Class Upper Hons. Developing a passion for, and commitment to, empowering individuals to manage psychological difficulties, Carmen decided to advance her learning and gain the competence and confidence to provide professional therapy and crises intervention treatment to those in need. In 2018, she registered with HELP University for the Master of Clinical Psychology(MCP) degree at the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences and graduated in early 2020 with a CGPA score of 3.73.

Shortly after her postgraduate studies, Carmen was engaged as Clinical Psychologist with the WeCare Allied Health Centre in K Lumpur, serving to provide excellent care/service to children and adults with mental and developmental disorders in Malaysia. Carmen’s previous career roles in 2019, included:

  • Clinical Psychologist Trainee with Mentem Psychological Services, a client-centred mental health facility situated in Subang Jaya, providing psychological assessments and interventions for the psychological concerns of children, adolescents and adults;
  • Clinical Psychologist Trainee with the Malaysia Mental Health Association, a voluntary, non-profit organization managed by interested individuals and professionals to promote mental health in the community; and
  • Clinical Psychologist Trainee with Alliance of Chin Refugees (ACR) Clinic, the refugee organization in Malaysia that supports and empowers refugees to advocate for the protection and rights of over 19,000 Chin refugees in the country.

Carmen completed her high school secondary education at SMK Subang Jaya 8 where she was a Girl Guide and Treasurer of the Badminton Club. Her undergraduate final year qualitative research was on “Students’ Perception on Parenting and its Effect on Children”. Carmen’s social/ extracurricular activities included being a volunteer for the Malaysian Cancer Council, Event Manager in the Nottingham Malaysia Action with Compassion and Empathy Society and Treasurer of the Frisbee Club.
